Best Hostels In Budapest For Backpackers

Quick Links

Budapest is famous for being one of the most historic, architecturally stunning, and romantic destinations in all of Europe. Budapest is the capital and largest city of Hungary in Central Europe and is one of the continent’s top party destinations (it was once one of the dual capitals of the large Austro-Hungarian Empire). Budapest is a great place to relax and unwind and is sometimes known as the spa capital of the world.

Historically, Budapest was two distinct cities called Buda and Pest. They are separated by the mighty Danube River. Most of the hostel accommodation and nightlife scene is on the Pest side, while much of the old architectural monuments are on the Buda side. Most of the hostels are in Pest (pronounced “Pesht”) and all the hostels listed here are in Pest.

The Hive Party Hostel Budapest

The Hive Party Hostel is a great option for those on a budget who just want a place to party. The hostel is located in the heart of Budapest’s (Pest’s) nightlife district and offers cheaper but basic accommodation. The hostel is tailored for party-goers and has a bar on the roof terrace with another (unaffiliated) bar and restaurant right below it on the first floor.

The Hive Party Hostel has a range of dormitory and private room accommodation – although the private room accommodation is quite basic. There is not much common space for chilling with other travelers. Instead, the idea is that it is a place to sleep after partying hard after a night out on the town until it’s time to start drinking again the next day.

The hostel is a larger hostel with around 300 beds (the third largest in Budapest). As it is a party hostel, stays are normally limited to only 7 consecutive nights (although exceptions can be made).

If one stays that The Hive Party Hostel, one needn’t plan one’s nightlife while in Budapest – they will plan it for them. Their fun-loving staff will arrange everything one could want – pub crawls, sightseeing tours, daytime SPA baths, night SPA parties, party boat cruises, and many more.

Avenue Hostel Budapest

Avenue Hostel is in a delightfully historic Budapest building (with the internal stairwell being very rustic). The part of the building with the hostel has been fully modernized and is also located in the historic city center (but a bit further out from the nightlife than The Hive Party Hostel and further from the river).

Avenue Hostel has a selection of private rooms, dormitories, and apartment-style accommodations. The dorms range from 4-bed dorms to 12-bed dorms.

They have an in-house bar and a great common area. This hostel is a great compromise between partying and chilling. The hostel still offers a variety of pub crawls and other activities, but it is not the hostel’s only focus. As they put it “No curfew for those who like to party, and quiet hours for those who like to sleep.”

Unlike many other hostels in Budapest, breakfast is included.

Flow Spaces

Another option for backpackers in Budapest is Flow Spaces. This hostel is also set in a charming historic building in the heart of Budapest only a short walk from the Danube River. Budapest’s iconic Central Market Hall is just the building behind them. The hostel is thoroughly modernized and the beds and facilities are modern and comfortable.

As the name suggests, it is much more chill with a focus on large common spaces where people can hang out and meet and chill at the hostel itself. There are workspaces for digital nomads and socialized spaces for travelers who would like to just hang out.
