AN elderly backpacker has been mauled by a grizzly bear even though on a distant hike.
The 68-12 months-old, who has not been named, was left blindsided when he was attacked in a remote part of Wyoming near Yellowstone National Park on Monday.
The hiker, of Buffalo, New York, was unable to use the bear spray that he was carrying, Jackson Gap Press reports.
But, he had a private locator beacon which helped rescuers find him.
He was airlifted to a medical center in Billings, Montana, and is being addressed for his injuries.
The extent of his accidents has not been disclosed.

Several animal attacks at Yellowstone National Park have been reported in recent times.
A girl, from West Chester, Pennsylvania, was gored by a bison on Thursday.
Park officials stated that the 71-calendar year-old and her daughter “inadvertently” approached the 1,800lb beast as they returned to their car at the trailhead.
The woman who sustained non-existence-threatening accidents was taken to a Wyoming healthcare facility.
And, a 34-year-aged gentleman was attacked by a bison on Monday.
He was strolling on a boardwalk close to the well-known Aged Trustworthy geyser.
Spectacular video captured the bison charging toward the loved ones, virtually injuring a little boy or girl.
Park officers disclosed in a statement that the gentleman suffered an arm harm soon after staying gored by the beast.
He was taken to the Eastern Idaho Regional Health-related Heart for cure.
And in May well, a 25-year-aged female, from Grove Metropolis, Ohio, was gored by the significant mammal.
Park rangers reported she threatened the beast when she received in 10 feet of it.
The bison pounced and tossed her in the air and she experienced a puncture wound.
The Park urged visitors to be knowledgeable and stay much more than 25 yards absent from large animals.

Officials warned: “Approaching bison threatens them and they may perhaps answer by bluff charging, head bobbing, pawing, bellowing, or snorting.
“These are warning indicators that you are as well close and that a charge is imminent.”
